Mayor Dewey F. Bartlett Jr. and Tulsa Parking Authority Chairman Barbara Hess hosted a dedication this afternoon of recent renovations to The Green at Third Street and Boston Avenue.
This downtown gathering place has been refurbished for continued public use and enjoyment. The stone pavers have been replaced and seating and tables have been added to complement the existing reflecting pools and Rotary Plaza, which was completed last year. Rotary Plaza is the official centennial project of the Rotary Club of Tulsa.
The Green is located directly above the Tulsa Parking Authority’s South Garage on Second Street near Boston Avenue. The Parking Authority also owns the North Garage on First Street between Boston and Main streets. In 2007, the Williams Companies turned over the North and South garages and The Green to the Tulsa Parking Authority for renovation.
Funding for the $450,000 renovation of The Green came from Tulsa Parking Authority bonds and parking revenue and the Technology Tax Increment Financing District. The project was completed in August.
As the parking arm of the City, the Tulsa Parking Authority plays a vital role in downtown development: to assist with parking needs for proposed developments. Tulsa Parking Authority operates five garages and the parking levels at the former city hall.
